EQ FAN FAIRE MUSINGS or ANIMALIAK MAITE DITUT, HORREGATIK EZ DITUT JATEN

A thousand Everquest players descend upon a Baltimore hotel, but the city’s biggest news of the weekend is that a something smelled bad on an airplane that wasn’t scheduled to land here in the first place. Verant, unlike British Airways, came out smelling like roses for the most part.

A Love Letter to Novalogic

Several weeks ago, I wrote the following to NovaLogic regarding their game, Delta Force:

My issue is with your copy protection. I bought Delta Force about a year ago. I just spent 20 fucking minutes looking for the goddamn CD so I could play again. I never did find it.

You know, I’ve been dealing with idiot-ass copy protection schemes since the days of the Atari 400 and Commodore 64. GUESS WHAT? PUNISHING YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS WASN’T ACCEPTABLE THEN, AND IT’S NOT ACCEPTABLE NOW.

I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO BE HUNTING FOR MY CD. I BOUGHT IT. IT’S INSTALLED. THAT SHOULD BE IT.

CHRIST, I FEEL LIKE I’M LOOKING UP MY SECRET CODE WHEEL FOR SOME STUPID COPY PROTECTED C64 GAME.

Thanks for that “BLAST FROM THE PAST”, guys. Great job. You’re really putting the “fun” in “non-functional” for me.

Instead of playing your game, I will go upstairs and read the book that I paid for.

Please note: the book will not ask me for my DAMN RECEIPT before I’m allowed to read more of it.

I’d follow with a bunch of blather about how I’ll never support your company in the future, but honestly, aren’t we past that part of our relationship? I think we know each other well enough where we just don’t need to re-hash THAT OLD WOUND.

Thanks!

Delusion

I was hoping they’d maybe offer to give me a complimentary copy of DF4 when it came out and maybe invite me for a tour of their headquarters. So far, I’ve heard nothing. I know you’re shocked.
