FINALLY, AN MRPG THAT DOESN’T MAKE BABY JESUS CRY!

Baby Jesus hits you for 43 points of soul damage. You have been saved.

Is Jesus ready for an MMOG built to praise Him?

Technically, ProjectX, isn’t an MMOG quite yet. Unlike some people, they’re familiar with the limitations of starting a niche product and seem to be keeping their goals realistic. Rather than build a game with magic server code and 19 species of sponges, they’re starting smaller - a game designed around the Gemstone III mud engine and client, which has the actual benefit of already existing… More to the point, it’s a project lead by an employee of Simultronics, who made Gemstone III in the first place.

Personally, I’d like to see them get somewhere with this. Yes, I’m still an atheist. I don’t consider that a contradiction. Of course, by the same token, I also wouldn’t be playing it, but I think it might have more to offer the industry than is first apparent. Read more »

EQ FAN FAIRE MUSINGS or ANIMALIAK MAITE DITUT, HORREGATIK EZ DITUT JATEN

A thousand Everquest players descend upon a Baltimore hotel, but the city’s biggest news of the weekend is that a something smelled bad on an airplane that wasn’t scheduled to land here in the first place. Verant, unlike British Airways, came out smelling like roses for the most part.

A Love Letter to Novalogic

Several weeks ago, I wrote the following to NovaLogic regarding their game, Delta Force:

My issue is with your copy protection. I bought Delta Force about a year ago. I just spent 20 fucking minutes looking for the goddamn CD so I could play again. I never did find it.

You know, I’ve been dealing with idiot-ass copy protection schemes since the days of the Atari 400 and Commodore 64. GUESS WHAT? PUNISHING YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS WASN’T ACCEPTABLE THEN, AND IT’S NOT ACCEPTABLE NOW.

I SHOULDN’T HAVE TO BE HUNTING FOR MY CD. I BOUGHT IT. IT’S INSTALLED. THAT SHOULD BE IT.

CHRIST, I FEEL LIKE I’M LOOKING UP MY SECRET CODE WHEEL FOR SOME STUPID COPY PROTECTED C64 GAME.

Thanks for that “BLAST FROM THE PAST”, guys. Great job. You’re really putting the “fun” in “non-functional” for me.

Instead of playing your game, I will go upstairs and read the book that I paid for.

Please note: the book will not ask me for my DAMN RECEIPT before I’m allowed to read more of it.

I’d follow with a bunch of blather about how I’ll never support your company in the future, but honestly, aren’t we past that part of our relationship? I think we know each other well enough where we just don’t need to re-hash THAT OLD WOUND.

Thanks!

Delusion

I was hoping they’d maybe offer to give me a complimentary copy of DF4 when it came out and maybe invite me for a tour of their headquarters. So far, I’ve heard nothing. I know you’re shocked.

A Love Letter to Apple

Five years ago, the Pentium 166Mhz was king - top of the line - and EDO RAM was its snivelling bastard syncophant. Today’s top machines exceed the 1 Gigahertz mark, and yet staple products like Microsoft Word, Quicktime, and of course Windows itself are just as prone to general flights of idiocy as they always were. Why is it that a six-times increase in speed never seems to result in a computer that performs six times as well? Read more »

MARCIE, GET OUT OF HERE. YOU’RE DEAD! YOU DON’T EXIST ANY MORE.

A review for all three people who have not seen the movie. In news that may be a surprise to readers of this site, this site ceased to exist in January. This from AllaKhazam’s Magical Realm:

The huge drop in value of many dot com stocks has taken a lot of money out of the web, and the amount being spent on advertising is only a fraction of what it was even six months ago. It seems like every day you read about another dot com company going bankrupt. Many good game sites, like Lum the Mad, Gameglow and others have just folded up shop.

Any updates you see after this are purely imaginary.

<mako> It’s on the web. It has to be true!
